To celebrate the new-look Peterborough One Retail Park, a free to attend carnival themed event took place on Saturday 22nd July, with additional activities on Sunday 23rd July.
The good weather and the promise of a colourful celebration saw thousands of visitors head to the shopping destination, which had an official opening ceremony and plenty of activities, shows, food stalls and live music.
As each carnival goer arrived, they were presented with a free goody bag containing money saving offers, a trolley coin key ring, party favours and more information about exciting developments at the Park.
Compered by Heart FM, a large stage was host to a schedule of entertainment including fashion shows from Bonmarché, Cotswold Outdoor, Roman, The Edinburgh Woollen Mill and Pavers, a balloonantic show where children could walk away with an inflatable friend, steel band music from Pantasy and dance routines from Saldance.
Visitors were also invited to take part in competitions and game shows, including ‘Build the PE1 Logo’ and ‘Best Dressed Clown’, both of which proved particularly popular with the cheering crowds!
Other free activity included craft workshops where children could design and decorate carnival masks, face painting, the opportunity to scale new heights on a rock climbing wall, reach the sky with bungee trampolines and get carried away to the Caribbean at the Van Hage beach.
Championing local independent craft businesses, the Park also welcomed ‘Hand Made For You’ and other stalls showcasing high quality unique items from crafters, artists and designers.
Children’s TV favourites Chase and Marshall from PAW Patrol also attended the event, much to the delight of little ones. The canine duo stole the show as they entertained children on Saturday with plenty of puppy-tastic fun and frolics. The PAW Patrol pair joined Councillor Fox, Mayor of Peterborough, and his wife on stage as they cut the ribbon to officially announce Peterborough One Retail Park as ‘open’.
During the event, the retailers of Peterborough One contributed various products and items to a tombola. The tombola helped to raise £350 for the Sue Ryder charity; a charity that provides compassionate care to people with end of life and long-term needs.
It was wonderful to see such a great turn out and we hope that visitors enjoyed the activities, the entertainment and the fantastic atmosphere during the event.
A spokesperson from Targetfollow – managing agents of Peterborough One Retail Park – said: “We were thrilled to officially launch Peterborough One Retail Park with our Summer Carnival.
