There’s plenty going on this Halloween in Peterborough. From our Halloween High Jinks activities next week to live music and trick or treating to spooktacular shows.

However, this time of year you sometimes want to curl up on the sofa or in bed with a good book. With so many great Halloween-themed reads available in The Works at PE1, you could be there for a long time!

Here are some of our favourite Halloween reads for kids and grown-ups:

The Hound of the Baskervilles – Sir Arthur Conan Doyle: £2

The Hound of the Baskervilles is a chilling tale that presents Sherlock Holmes with one of his most challenging cases.

Sir Henry Baskerville, the new master of the Baskerville estate, is haunted by a phantom beast with blazing eyes and dripping jaws which roams the mist-enshrouded moors around isolated Baskerville Hall on Dartmoor.

Is this fiendish spectre the manifestation of the family curse? Or is Sir Henry the victim of a scheming murderer? This is Conan Doyle’s last Holmes novel and in the opinion of many of his fans, it is his best.

The Witch’s Journal – Selene Silverwind: £5

Do you need help finding a new love, releasing stress or a new job? The Witch’s Journal is full of spells, charms, potions, enchantments and simple rituals.

Unlike many similar books, the tools and ingredients listed in these pages are common household items. Pitched at apprentice spellcasters, the content is presented in a graphic way making it a book to dip in and dip out of, learning as you go!

The Woman in Black – Susan Hill: £7.99

Proud and solitary, Eel Marsh House surveys the windswept reaches of the salt marshes beyond Nine Lives Causeway.

Arthur Kipps, a junior solicitor, is summoned to attend the funeral Mrs Alice Drablow, the house’s sole inhabitant, unaware of the tragic secrets which lie hidden behind the shuttered windows.

Horrible Histories Blood Curdling Book Box: £20

This box set has all twenty foul favourites from the Horrible Histories series presented in a blood-curdling box with flip-top lid.

The set includes the Rotten Romans, Terrible Tudors and Awesome Egyptians and lots more ghastly history fun!

This is the perfect book box for all gruesome horrible history fans and allows for books to be stored safely and tidily.

Meg’s Castle: £2

Meg, Mog and Owl stay in a castle. They meet ghastly ghosts and spooky white knights, fight brave battles and tuck into a big feast.

The bestselling Meg and Mog stories are perfect for sharing or reading alone. Children will love exploring the bright colours, sounds and shapes!

Settle down with a petrifying page-turner or a spooky story this Halloween. Visit The Works at PE1 to browse their fang-tastic selection.
