In conjunction with PE1’s Fire & Ice Christmas Spectacular on Saturday 23rd November, Peterborough Soup Kitchen has been nominated as the retail park’s charity for a Christmas collection.
Visitors can donate to this worthy cause upon entrance, during the show itself, via the purchase of LED wands and at the Lantern Craft Workshop.
All monies raised from the event will go to help Peterborough’s homeless have hot meals over Christmas time.
Homeless and Disadvantaged People
Peterborough Soup Kitchen is a charity that helps homeless and disadvantaged people from in and around the city. Their aim is to ensure that anybody who turns up at their serving van receives hot food and drinks throughout the year, whatever the weather conditions.
Their van – located in Bright Street coach Park in Peterborough – prepares soup, sandwiches, takeaway food and drinks. Food and drink is then served by their teams of volunteers; who operate 52 weeks of the year, 6 days a week and serve between 35 to 60 clients each day. They have no paid staff – just committed volunteers.
The charity is made up entirely of volunteers. The soup kitchen cannot function without the loyalty, dedication, support, time, effort, enthusiasm, fundraising efforts and goodwill of all its volunteers who willingly give over 7,662 hours per annum.
The have approximately 190 local volunteers and the charity is run and managed by a small committee of trustees.
Peterborough Soup Kitchen are always looking for new volunteers to join the team. If you – or someone you know – is interested, download the application form.
As a charity, Peterborough Soup Kitchen cannot survive without monetary and food donations from supporters. With this in mind:
- 100% of food and money donated goes to the core activity of the charity
- All donations allow them to continue to feed the homeless and disadvantaged in Peterborough
However, there are some restrictions as to what you can and can’t donate. Full details of these can be found here.
PE1 is delighted to be working alongside Peterborough Soup Kitchen this weekend, and we hope to raise a lot of much-needed funds for this fantastic and worthwhile charity!
