From gorgeous gift ideas to got-to-have gadgets and divine décor to show-stopping styles, Peterborough One Retail Park is your one-stop-shop this Christmas!
And with enchanting events, plenty of in-store promotions and cracking Christmas giveaways, it really is the place to be for some extra sparkle this season.
To kick off Christmas this year, Peterborough One hosted a Fire & Ice Spectacular on Saturday 23rd November. The festive family fun included:
Featuring unique circus artistry, FlameOz is a multi-award-winning fire dancing act that has performed in over 40 countries. Their show-stopping entertainers wowed crowds alongside eye-popping pyrotechnics throughout the evening.
Described as ‘incredible’ by Brian May and ‘amazing’ by Hugh Grant, Calvos is a stilt-walking and crystal ball juggling act that has performed in the UK, Europe, Asia, America and the Middle East. The larger than life walkers traversed Peterborough One’s walkways, whilst mesmerising young and old with their mystical tricks.
Lantern Craft Workshop
Provisions were made for little ones to demonstrate their creativity during a festive lantern craft workshop. Children could design and decorate a paper lantern, using a variety of materials and techniques during this free activity. Trained supervisors were on hand to offer guidance and creative expertise. Over 260 crafters took part in this popular workshop.
Stage Show: Hosted by Josh Lovatt
Radio personality Josh Lovatt hosted the evening’s stage show, that incorporated plenty of live music and entertainment. This included a pantomime performance of The Wizard of Oz by Peterborough’s New Theatre, Christmas carols from Paston Ridings Primary School and Lucy’s Choir. Plus, various gameshows with the chance to win high value prizes.
Sparks in the Park
Led by FlameOz and Calvos, and involving children with their finished lanterns, a Fire & Ice Lantern Parade took place shortly before the official lights switch on. The parade led to the 35 ft Christmas Tree in the centre of Peterborough One where, after a dramatic countdown, the lights were turned on by Peterborough’s Unsung Heroes. A 15-minute dazzling display of fantastic fireworks choreographed to Christmas music then ensued.
Peterborough’s Unsung Heroes
Prior to the event, PE1 reached out to its visitors and shoppers asking people to nominate individuals from the local area who warranted special recognition. The selected unsung heroes were chosen, who then helped switch on Peterborough One’s Christmas Lights on stage. These were:
Vincent (age 12) has cerebral palsy and cystic fibrosis. He has worked hard all year to be placed 2nd in the UK for t37 long jump. He’s aiming to be at the 2024 Paralympics.
Liza has continuously raised tens of thousands of pounds for The Phoenix School in Peterborough, and for adult special needs charities. She also cuts hair for the homeless people of Peterborough.
Maggie is the secretary for the Peterborough area Downs Syndrome Group. Maggie attends all the weekly drop in sessions at Honeyhill and monthly teenzone sessions. She works tirelessly fundraising for the charity, along with thinking up new and exciting activities to raise monies.
Lesley helped people who lost their jobs when Thomas Cook went into administration. She did this by offering free hypnotherapy sessions. Her friend Cat says: “Her help was from the heart and helped so many.”
Sarah has run several local and national marathons, helping to raise money for Mind. She works hard to raise awareness of mental health issues and has also fundraised for brain tumour charities.
Peterborough Soup Kitchen
PE1 nominated the Peterborough Soup Kitchen as the charity for a Christmas collection throughout the night. Visitors could donate to this worthy cause upon entrance to the Spectacular and during the show. In total, the charity raised £399.98. All this money will go to help Peterborough’s homeless have hot meals over Christmas time.
A Huge Success!
Thousands of people flocked to Peterborough One for the Fire & Ice Spectacular and social media followers took to the retail park’s social platforms to express their delight at the night’s proceedings:

On social media, organic promotion of the event reached over 65,000 people with an engagement rate of 7%. The activity period also saw PE1 outperform the likes of Queensgate Shopping Centre and Springfields Outlet on social media.
Paul Dunn, Asset Manager at Peterborough One Retail Park, says: ‘We were thrilled to host yet another incredible event at Peterborough One, and were delighted to see such brilliant feedback from our valued customers. Our Fire & Ice spectacular was truly just that, and a fantastic way to celebrate a successful year at the retail park. We have kicked off the festive season in style and, with so many more things to look forward to over winter and beyond, we can’t wait to welcome customers back!”
