There were smiles across Peterborough on 12 April as society started to unlock with hairdressers, gyms and beer gardens finally able to reopen.
Although the UK’s retail parks were busy throughout lockdown due to a high concentration of essential stores – they still marked a 35.3% uplift as shops reopened. This means that footfall at retail parks is only 2% below the 2019 pre-pandemic figure. Peterborough One in particular was bustling with life, as people went back to doing the things they’ve missed for the first time in almost four months!
Back in business
At PE1, the chilly Monday morning air was thick with excitement as businesses prepared for the grand reopening. Most of our stores have reopened, with exception of Inflata Nation which is expected to bounce back for 17 May. With exciting new stock and enhanced COVID-secure protocol – everyone has been working incredibly hard to ensure a fresh and safe experience for all visitors.
It was clear that shoppers were looking to revamp their wardrobe post-lockdown, as Roman Originals and Pavers bustled with customers. To celebrate this month’s grand reopening, Breast Cancer Care are offering all ladies clothing for £3.00 or less – with tons of unique outfits on sale, there’s no excuse not look stylish for the spring!
To match their snazzy new clobber, visitors also sought a pamper and makeover at Kiss & Make Up and Steadmans & Co! Whether you want that perfect sun-kissed balayage or flawless eyebrows to impress friends during those socially distanced gatherings – PE1’s stores can help you get the look you’ve been dreaming of throughout lockdown!
Fun in the sun
Customers were thrilled to visit The Works – and with their epic mix & match 2 for £5 mega deal, there are still plenty of bargains to grab. The store currently has an abundance of outdoor toys for sale, including a Giant Foam 4 In a Row Game for only £25.00! Enjoy the springtime sunshine with this great outdoor activity.
By lunchtime, our park came alive again with families and groups of friends enjoying delicious fresh meat, cheese, pastries and more scrumptious snacks from Van Hage’s food hall. So many were relishing the forgotten luxury of not having to cook meals at home!
The next step
The previous lockdowns have shown us that footfall continues to increase in the weeks after the easement of restrictions; we therefore look forward to welcoming even more customers! Indoor hospitality is set to reopen on 17 May as part of the next step in Boris Johnson’s roadmap – so be sure to save that date in your calendar!
While it has been amazing to see the incredible support for our brilliant shops; simply being able to talk to so many real people over the past week has been a novelty in itself! Having a chat with our staff – even if it’s about the weather – has been something we yearned for during lockdown.
Please remember when visiting PE1 to make sure you follow the rules so the shopping experience is a safe and enjoyable one for everyone.
