Stagecoach East has upgraded its offering to Peterborough One Retail Park, announcing changes to its number 36 and 37 services. These bus routes will now provide a direct connection for passengers wishing to get to the venue via public transport.
The changes that come into effect on Monday 26th July, are being implemented following Peterborough One’s latest expansion that includes the new Aldi supermarket.
Full to Capacity
Aldi at Peterborough One opened its doors to the public in June this year, recruiting 30 new staff members for the 18,500 sq ft location. The premium supermarket has been proving extremely popular with Peterborough residents owing to its offering of affordable, high quality food.
The retail park is also home to Van Hage Garden Centre, Steadman & Co Hairdressing, The Works, Roman, Pavers, Maidenhead Aquatics, Just4Sofas, Hammonds, InflataNation, Hebden Dance Company and the beauty school Kiss & Make Up. Peterborough One was also excited to welcome Angle Axe at the end of June – Peterborough’s first axe throwing venue and now Inspired Martial Arts opening today (21st July) along with the forthcoming opening of the final remaining unit in August when Mobility Your Way will start welcoming customers.
For the first time, the retail park has no empty units – it is full to capacity. This has been a massive boost to the site, particularly as this has been achieved during several national lockdowns. The Aldi scheme itself is on course to double the site’s footfall.
As a consequence of increased activity at the retail park, it has been important to evolve the public transport offering.
Paul Dunn, Associate Director for Targetfollow, says: “It’s testament to the success of all our retailers that we are now able to welcome new visitors to our fully let park by bus, whether they are enjoying beauty treatments in KAMU, new hairdos in Steadman & Co Hairdressing or even sharpening their axe throwing skills in Angle Axe!”
Speaking of the new bus services for Peterborough One, Darren Roe – Managing Director of Stagecoach East – says: “At Stagecoach East we are constantly listening to customer feedback and looking for ways to enhance and update our bus network to better support local people in the communities we serve. We are, therefore, delighted to introduce an enhanced route for our 36 and 37 services to provide a direct and convenient link to the Peterborough One Retail Park, especially in light of the new Aldi supermarket opening.”
As the UK emerges from lockdown and people return to workplaces, shops and businesses, public transport plays a crucial role in re-connecting communities and safeguarding the economic future of the UK. A quarter of households do not have access to a car, rising to 45% of low-income ones. 35% of all trips are by public transport, walking or cycling.
Stagecoach is the UK’s biggest bus, tram and coach operator, and is playing its part in encouraging people back on board. It continues to work with local authorities in towns and cities across England to agree increased timetables to support the local demand. Stagecoach is also taking the opportunity to thank people for their continued co-operation in line with advice from the country’s health advisors regarding Covid-19. They continue to encourage people to pay by contactless whenever possible, or through the dedicated mobile app to reduce cash handling. Regular touchpoint cleaning as well as anti-virus air filters in buses help to maintain cleanliness.
Carla Stockton-Jones, UK Managing Director for Stagecoach, says: “Our bus services will continue to play a crucial role in helping people to re-connect with the things they enjoy doing. All of our services are fully Covid secure with extra measures in place to help people feel fully confident as they return to public transport. We’ve all worked so well together, and as the country now unlocks, it’s still important that people continue to follow all the guidelines in place as they travel on our services.”
Carla adds: “We’d like to thank our customers for their support and co-operation over the past year. As the vaccination programme continues at pace and as the country opens up, people are desperately keen to return to some kind of normality and our bus services will make sure they get to where they want to easily and safely.”
